Director's Messages

Summer 2015

I am delighted to announce that the Clinical and Translational Research Institute (CTRI) has received a five-year Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) for about $52 million from the National Center for Advancing Translational Science, part of the National Institutes of Health. The new award recognizes CTRI's success during its initial funding under the CTSA program and the high quality of proposed programs going forward. more

Spring 2015

Increasing the speed and efficiency of clinical research protocols—including multi-center studies—is a key goal of the CTRI. To help launch clinical trials, the CTRI is creating a Rapid Response Trials Team (R2T2) service. more

Winter 2015

I'm delighted to announce that CTRI has been selected as the official Testing Site for the $10M Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE. This global competition is sponsored by the Qualcomm Foundation for teams to develop a consumer-friendly, mobile device capable of diagnosing and interpreting a set of 15 conditions and capturing vital health metrics. Inspired by the medical Tricorder in Star Trek, the XPRIZE aims to bring science fiction to science reality. The XPRIZE mission is to bring about "radical breakthroughs for the benefit of humanity," which dovetails nicely with CTRI goals. more

Fall 2014

I'm very pleased to announce our launch of UCSD Profiles, a powerful online networking tool that connects researchers with other researchers and encourages the formation of collaborations. The Clinical and Translational Research Institute (CTRI) manages UCSD Profiles, and CTRI Translational Research Alliance Director Deborah Spector leads the project, working closely with staff from CTRI, UCSD's Calit2, and UC San Francisco. more

Summer 2014

I am extremely pleased to announce the July 1 opening of an investigational drug pharmacy at CTRI's Center for Clinical Research (CCR) in our East Campus Office Building. Pharmacy services are critical to the success of clinical trials involving experimental drugs. more

Spring 2014

The CTRI is delighted to announce our collaboration with an exceptional community organization, the San Diego Blood Bank. Through this connection, our shared goal is to enhance CTRI's capacity to provide research resources for CTRI scientists and by enabling the Blood Bank to leverage its infrastructure to further support healthcare. more
